About Multilingual DTP

What is multilingual DTP?

Multilingual DTP (desktop publishing) is the process of formatting and typesetting translated content so it looks professional in every target language. It covers page layout, fonts, text direction, spacing, graphics and tables, so each language version stays consistent with the original design. See our Multilingual DTP Services page for more.

Why is DTP needed after translation?

Translation changes more than the words. German and Russian text often runs longer than English, while Chinese or Finnish can run shorter. Arabic and Hebrew read right to left, and some scripts need specific fonts. Without DTP, you get overflowing text boxes, broken characters, misaligned tables and inconsistent pages.

What is the difference between DTP and typesetting?

Typesetting is arranging text on the page: fonts, line breaks, spacing and pagination. DTP is the wider production process, including layout, graphics, tables, styles and final file output. Our multilingual typesetting services cover the text side, and full DTP covers the whole document.

What is DTP localization?

DTP localization adapts the visual side of a document for a specific language and market. That includes rebuilding layouts, adjusting typography, replacing text inside images and checking that the finished pages work in the target language. It complements translation but doesn’t replace it. Learn more about our localization services.

Do you translate content?

Our focus is DTP production, typesetting, localization production, OCR and file preparation. We work from translated or localized content you provide, such as files from your translation agency or in-house linguists. If you need translation as well, tell us about your project and we’ll discuss the options.

Languages and Scripts

How many languages do you support?

We support DTP, typesetting and localization production in 100+ languages, including Indic, Asian, Middle Eastern and European languages. If you need a language or font that isn’t listed, send us your files and we’ll review the requirements before the project starts.

Can you handle right-to-left (RTL) languages like Arabic and Hebrew?

Yes. We support RTL DTP for Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, Persian and other right-to-left languages. That includes mirroring page structure, handling mixed-direction text such as numbers or English terms, and adapting tables and columns.

Do you provide Chinese, Japanese and Korean (CJK) DTP?

Yes. Our CJK typesetting covers Chinese, Japanese and Korean content, including font management, line breaking, spacing and layout adaptation. See our CJK DTP service for details.

Do you support Indic languages?

Yes. We work with Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Odia and other Indic scripts. Indic typesetting needs careful font handling so conjuncts and characters display correctly.

What if my document mixes several languages or scripts?

Mixed-language documents are common, such as an English document with Arabic or Japanese sections. We review the source files first, then set up fonts, text direction and styles for each language so every section displays correctly.

What happens if a font is missing or characters break?

We check font compatibility at the start of a project. If the source font doesn’t support the target script, we recommend a suitable alternative that fits the original design. You can also give us a brand font to use if it supports the language.

Services and File Formats

Do you provide Adobe InDesign DTP services?

Yes. We handle multilingual InDesign production for books, brochures, catalogs, reports, manuals and marketing materials. Visit our InDesign DTP Services page for more.

Can you work with Word and PowerPoint files?

Yes. We format and localize Microsoft Word and PowerPoint files, including text, tables, styles, charts and graphics. See Word & PowerPoint DTP Services.

Can you convert a PDF to an editable InDesign file?

Yes. We rebuild PDFs as editable Adobe InDesign files that match the original layout, fonts and styles, so you can update or republish the content without redesigning it. Learn about our PDF to InDesign conversion services.

Do you offer OCR for scanned documents?

Yes. Our OCR services and multilingual OCR turn scanned documents, image-based PDFs and image files into editable text. We can then carry the content through DTP production if you need a finished layout.

Can you localize images, charts and infographics?

Yes. We replace and adapt text in images, charts, diagrams, infographics and marketing graphics so labels match the target language, while keeping the original design intent. See Image Localization Services.

Do you handle book typesetting?

Yes. We provide book layout, pagination and multilingual typesetting for print and digital publishing, including textbooks, journals and eBooks.

Can you prepare print-ready files?

Yes. We prepare final files to your print or digital specifications. Details are on our print-ready file preparation page.

Which software do you use?

We use professional tools suited to each project, including Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat, Microsoft Office applications, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, CorelDRAW, Canva and Figma. If your files use another format, ask us and we’ll confirm.

Working With Us

What files should I send?

Send the source or native files if you have them, such as InDesign (.indd or .idml), Word or PowerPoint, along with linked images, fonts and the translated text. Reference PDFs of the original design are also very helpful. If you don’t have source files, we can still help. See our guide to working with or without source files.

Can I send files that are already translated?

Yes. We work with translated files from translation agencies, localization teams or in-house linguists, in Word, PDF, InDesign, PowerPoint and other formats.

Do you work with translation and localization agencies?

Yes. Many of our clients are translation agencies and localization companies that outsource DTP production after the translation stage. You keep control of your translation workflow while we handle layout, typesetting and final files.

How do you check quality?

Every project goes through layout review, formatting checks, typography checks and a check for missing content before delivery. For multilingual files, we also look for line-break, hyphenation and text-direction issues.

Can my linguists review the layout before final delivery?

Yes. Reviewing the typeset pages in context is the best way to catch issues such as awkward line breaks or truncated text. Tell us your review process when you request a quote, and we’ll plan around it.

Is my content kept confidential?

If your project requires a non-disclosure agreement, let us know before you share files and we’ll take it from there.

Free Trial, Quotes and Timelines

Do you offer a free trial?

Yes. Send us a sample file and we’ll show you what we can do. Book a free trial to get started.

How do I request a quote?

Use our quote page and include your source files, target languages, approximate page count, file formats and any deadline. We’ll review the project and send a quotation based on the scope.

What affects the cost of a DTP project?

Pricing depends on the number of pages, the number of languages, how complex the layout is, the script (such as RTL or CJK), the amount of graphics and image localization, and whether you have editable source files. Documents with more tables, charts and embedded text usually need more production time.

How long will my project take?

Timelines depend on page count, languages, file condition and the complexity of the layout. Share your deadline in your quote request and we’ll tell you what’s realistic for your project.

Can you support ongoing or recurring projects?

Yes. We support one-off projects as well as recurring work for publishers, agencies and businesses with regular multilingual content.

Notes for publishing

  • Internal links: Only existing pages are linked. The CJK, RTL, Indic and Book DTP pages currently show as # in the menu, so link them once those pages are live.
  • Confirm before publishing: the confidentiality, recurring work, mixed-language and linguist-review answers should match how the team actually works.
  • FAQ schema: FAQPage JSON-LD or Gutenberg accordion blocks can be added on request.
