Urdu DTP Services for Print and Digital Publishing
Urdu is not Arabic with different words. It has its own script style, its own typographic conventions and its own layout traps. Our Urdu DTP services give publishers, agencies, NGOs, corporates and localization teams clean, accurate, publication-ready Urdu pages, in Nastaliq or Naskh, in InDesign or from legacy InPage files.
We handle the typesetting, the right-to-left layout, the mixed Urdu and English text, and the final print and digital files. You send content. We return pages that read naturally to an Urdu reader and open without surprises in your production workflow.
What Are Urdu DTP Services?
Urdu DTP (desktop publishing) is the process of placing Urdu text, images, tables and graphics into a designed layout for print or digital output. It covers font selection, script shaping, right-to-left page flow, line spacing, numerals, punctuation, mirrored design elements and file preparation.
Good Urdu DTP is invisible. The reader notices the content, not the formatting. Poor Urdu DTP is obvious at a glance: broken joins between letters, misplaced diacritics, scrambled numbers, English words stuck on the wrong side of a sentence, or lines so tight that Nastaliq strokes collide.
Urdu DTP Services We Offer
Urdu Book Typesetting
Novels, poetry collections, textbooks, religious and academic titles. We set body text, headings, footnotes, couplets, indexes and running heads with proper Urdu page flow, then deliver print-ready PDFs and e-book-ready files. See also our book DTP and typesetting services.
Urdu Brochures, Flyers and Marketing Collateral
Product brochures, catalogs, posters, banners and campaign material. We adapt an English or multilingual design into Urdu, mirror the layout where it makes sense, and keep your brand fonts, colors and imagery consistent.
Urdu Manuals, Reports and Corporate Documents
User manuals, annual reports, training material, policies, forms and presentations. We keep tables, numbered steps, technical terms and Latin-script product names correctly aligned inside Urdu text.
Nastaliq and Naskh Typesetting
We set Urdu in the style your audience expects. Nastaliq is the traditional choice for Urdu books, poetry and print media. Naskh is often used for digital interfaces, forms, subtitles and documents where compact line height and screen legibility matter. We recommend a style based on your audience, medium and output size, and can match a specific font if you have a brand requirement.
InPage to InDesign Conversion
Many Urdu publishers hold archives in InPage. We rebuild those files in Adobe InDesign so you can edit, reuse and export them in modern formats. Text, styles, images and page structure are recreated rather than just converted blindly, then checked against the original proof. Learn more about InDesign DTP services.
PDF to InDesign Conversion for Urdu
If you only have a PDF, we can rebuild the Urdu pages as fully editable InDesign files. Urdu text copied from PDFs often arrives reversed, broken or garbled, so we re-enter or repair the text rather than trust a raw extract. See PDF to InDesign conversion services.
Urdu OCR and Retyping
For scanned Urdu books, forms and archives, we combine OCR with manual proofreading and retyping. Urdu OCR needs careful review, particularly for Nastaliq, so we do not rely on automated output alone. Explore our multilingual OCR services.
Urdu Localization Layout
Translating into Urdu changes the page. Text expands or contracts, direction reverses and icons or charts may need mirroring. We rebuild the layout after translation so the finished document looks designed for Urdu, not patched. This works alongside our multilingual DTP and localization services.
Print-Ready and Digital File Preparation
We deliver files prepared for your printer or platform: PDF/X, high-resolution print PDFs, web PDFs, e-book formats and packaged InDesign files with fonts and links. See print-ready file preparation.
Why Urdu Typesetting Needs Specialists
General DTP operators can often get Urdu to display. Getting it right is a different task. These are the issues our team checks on every project.
- Script style: Nastaliq flows diagonally and stacks letter forms in a way that Naskh and Arabic fonts do not. It needs more line height and careful word spacing.
- Joining and ligatures: Letters must join correctly, and contextual forms must render as the font intends. Broken shaping is one of the most common faults in poorly typeset Urdu.
- Diacritics (aerab): Zabar, zer, pesh and other marks must sit on the right letters without colliding with neighboring lines.
- Mixed direction text: Urdu runs right to left, but English words, URLs, email addresses, product codes and numbers run left to right. Punctuation can jump to the wrong end of a line if the text is not set up properly.
- Numerals: Urdu documents may use Western digits or Eastern Arabic-Indic digits, and the Urdu and Arabic digit forms differ for some numbers. We follow your style guide or apply a consistent standard.
- Punctuation: Urdu uses its own full stop (۔), comma (،) and question mark (؟). Straight Latin punctuation is a common error in imported text.
- Page mirroring: Urdu books bind on the right. Page numbers, margins, running heads, bullets, progress bars and directional icons must be adjusted.
- Fonts: Not every Urdu font supports the full character set, and some fonts look fine on screen but fail in print or export. We test before we commit.
- Tables and forms: Column order, alignment and text wrapping all change in a right-to-left layout.
These are the same areas covered in our wider RTL DTP services, and we apply the same discipline to Arabic DTP services. If your project includes South Asian languages written left to right, see our Indic DTP services.
Software and File Formats We Work With
- Adobe InDesign (including right-to-left and South Asian language support)
- InPage (legacy files converted to InDesign)
- Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for graphics and image text
- Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for document and presentation layouts
- PDF (source, print and accessible PDFs)
- Output: PDF/X, print-ready PDF, web PDF, IDML, packaged InDesign files, and e-book formats on request
Our Urdu DTP Process
- Share your files and brief. Send source files, PDFs, InPage files, scans or translated text, with any brand or style guidelines, sample pages and printer specifications.
- Review and scope. We check content type, page count, fonts, images and special requirements, then confirm scope, timeline and cost.
- Pilot pages. For larger projects we set a few sample pages so you can approve the look, font choice and layout before full production.
- Production. Our Urdu typesetters build the full layout with styles, master pages, mirrored elements and consistent formatting.
- Proofing and quality checks. We review script shaping, diacritics, numerals, punctuation, mixed-direction text, links, images and page flow, and compare against the source.
- Revisions. You send comments, we apply them, and we recheck the affected pages.
- Final delivery. You receive print-ready and digital files, plus packaged source files if you need them.

- Confidentiality. We treat your content as confidential and can sign an NDA on request.
Urdu DTP Pricing
Urdu DTP pricing depends on the number of pages, content type (text-heavy or design-heavy), source file format, script style, number of images and tables, language mix, turnaround and revision rounds. Because these vary widely, we quote per project instead of publishing a flat rate.
To get an accurate quote, send us your files or a sample. We will confirm scope and cost, typically before any work begins.
Frequently Asked Questions About Urdu DTP Services
What are Urdu DTP services?
Urdu DTP services cover the layout and typesetting of Urdu content for print and digital use. This includes font selection, right-to-left page setup, mixed Urdu and English text, numerals, punctuation, image placement and the final file preparation for printing or publishing.
Do you typeset in Nastaliq or Naskh?
Both. Nastaliq is the standard for Urdu books and poetry and is widely preferred in print. Naskh is often chosen for forms, interfaces and digital documents. We can advise on the better choice for your project or follow your brand font.
Can you convert InPage files to InDesign?
Yes. We rebuild InPage files in InDesign so they are editable and compatible with modern workflows. We match the original design, then proof the result against your reference copy.
Can you work from a PDF or scanned copy?
Yes. We can rebuild Urdu pages from PDFs and scans. Because text extracted from Urdu PDFs is often corrupted, we repair or retype the content and proofread it before layout.
Can you handle Urdu and English on the same page?
Yes. Mixed-direction text is a core part of our workflow. We make sure English words, numbers, URLs and brand names appear in the correct order within Urdu sentences, and that punctuation does not drift.
Do you translate Urdu content too?
Our core service is DTP. If you need translation, we can coordinate it through our localization services or work with your own translators and typeset the approved text.
Which file formats do you deliver?
We deliver print-ready PDFs, web PDFs and packaged InDesign files. We can also supply IDML and e-book formats when required. Tell us your printer or platform specifications and we will prepare files accordingly.
Do you offer proofreading?
We check layout, script shaping, diacritics, numerals, punctuation and formatting. If you want linguistic proofreading of the Urdu text itself, let us know when you request a quote so we can include it in scope.
How long does an Urdu DTP project take?
Turnaround depends on page count, complexity and source file quality. A short brochure may take a day or two, while a full-length book takes longer. We confirm a timeline in the quote.
Is my content kept confidential?
Yes. We handle all files confidentially and can sign an NDA before you share material.
